Neue Seite

Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 is the tenth home version of Dance Dance Revolution to be released in the United States. It was released by Konami on September 28 2005 for the Sony 2 video game console. It was announced in a press release by Konami on May 17 2005, and unveiled at the E³ expo in Los Angeles that same day.

Features
The game contains 74 songs, 24 initially available and 50 that need to be unlocked, either through normal play or purchasing the songs with Dance Points accumulated through Dance Master Mode. The majority of the songs are Konami originals, most of which are composed by Naoki Maeda. This mix introduces several licensed tracks to DDR as well as reusing veteran songs, such as Smile.dk's "Butterfly (Upswing Mix)", letting the highly popular European group finally appear on a DDR U.S. home version.

For the first time in any U.S. DDR, a song by E-Rotic was included, specifically In The Heat Of The Night. Konami had previously been reluctant to release songs by the German pop group, known for its sexually explicit lyrics, on United States versions of Dance Dance Revolution. Seven songs from the group, including the aforementioned, had been released on Japanese versions of DDR previously. The particular song chosen is relatively tame. The decision may have been pushed by the fact that a competing dance game, In The Groove, had licensed and released two E-Rotic songs in its game, both also relatively tame selections. Largely due to the inclusion of E-Rotic, DDR EXTREME 2 is rated Everyone 10+ by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, with the billets for Mild Lyrics and Suggestive Themes.

Due to the outcry over the elimination of the Song Wheel interface in the US version of DDR EXTREME, it has been restored in DDR EXTREME 2. The Groove Radar feature has also reappeared. New advance modes available, the EyeToy digital camera peripheral is used only for "hands and feet" and "watch me dance" modes. In addition, for the first time in PlayStation DDR games, online gameplay is available... or is it?

Other Versions
There were suggestions that DDR EXTREME 2 may be released in Japan, and possibly Europe as well, simultaneously with the already announced U.S. release, making it the first universal Dance Dance Revolution release. Previously, U.S. versions of games had differing song selections from Japanese versions, and Europe has a whole different name for the DDR franchise (Dancing Stage). The online gameplay feature is described by Konami as "global", and images on a teaser page connected to the Japanese DDR home version gateway are similar to images in the DDR EXTREME 2 introduction video. On September 6 2005, Konami announced Dance Dance Revolution STR!KE as the name of the new Japanese version of DDR, and confirmed it would have the same interface as DDR EXTREME 2, but also would have different music, and would be released some time in 2006. The European version will be named Dancing Stage Max (not to be confused with DDRMAX or its European counterpart, Dancing Stage MegaMix).

Online Play
The online features of DDR EXTREME 2 are available exclusively to players who use a broadband connection to access online gaming functions of the PlayStation 2. Players who use an analog modem will be unable to play the game online.

Online services for DDR EXTREME 2 ended on September 12, 2006. Presumably, this may be because the next title, Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA, contains online play.
